In addition to the high level of internationality that characterised the fair on all days, the quality of the visitors was once again outstanding. CEOs and top buyers from the world’s leading retail companies registered at the fair. The food-out-of-home market also came to Cologne with international teams, as did executives from major online retailers.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Christina Schulze Föcking. The opening ceremony was attended by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Indian Minister for Food Processing Industries, I.E. Smt. as a guest of honour.

“Anuga was once again a record-breaking event,” said Friedhelm Dornseifer, President of the German Federal Association of the Food Trade (BVLH). “The great interest shown by the international food industry shows that the trade fair is very much on the agenda of food manufacturers and buyers. Anyone who wants to get an idea of what people around the world are eating and drinking now and in the future should not miss Anuga. In addition to the presentation of innovative products, the focus was also on the latest trends in the food trade. And these are digital. More and more customers are becoming omnishoppers. They expect a networked offering that combines brick-and-mortar, online media and mobile terminal authorization. However, digitalization is not the end of supermarkets. Consumers will continue to go to stores to buy food products with all four senses. Any technological development that supports retailers in providing customers with the appropriate offers is welcome.”

* Overview of the route

The President of the Federal Association of the German Food Industry (BVE), Wolfgang Ingold, sums it up as follows: “Growth in the food industry is only possible today through export. Already, one in three euros of profit is made abroad. Anuga is the largest and most important trade fair for food and beverages and thus also the largest and most important platform for the export business of the German food industry. This year too, German food manufacturers were able to impressively demonstrate that they can offer more than just products for the palate – they are leaders in quality, safety and variety! This is also the reason why our food sector ranks third among exporting nations worldwide with 56.7 billion euros in exports. Innovations play a central role in maintaining this leading position. No other sector is as innovative as we are: more than 40,000 new products appear on the German market every year. Anuga is thus becoming the world’s leading trade fair for innovations.”

Guido Zöllick, President of the Federal Association DEHOGA, said: “Anuga has demonstrated its great importance, attractiveness and resonance for our entire industry. Five days of fully-booked trade fairs have provided food professionals from all over the world with a unique source of information on F&B trends, innovations and future technologies.”
